AIRODISC / Learn / Universal aero discs
Is there a universal aero disc?
Short answer: no aero disc fits every car, and anyone selling one as truly universal is asking you to modify something that spins at highway speed. What does exist is a disc that is not tied to one brand of wheel, and that is usually what people searching for a universal aero disc actually want.
What "universal" usually means in this category
On a cheap set, universal means a plastic cover sized for the two or three most common wheel diameters, held by clips on the rim or trapped under the lug nuts. It fits a lot of cars loosely. On a made-to-fit disc, the honest version of universal is narrower and more useful: it fits any wheel of a given size and bolt pattern, factory or aftermarket, because it mounts to the wheel itself and not to one wheel design.
The second kind is what we build. The disc mounts through a 12mm spacer on the hub and an adapter that passes through the centre of the wheel, so it does not care which brand made the wheel or what its spokes look like.
The two things that decide fit
- Wheel diameter. A disc is made for one size. Ours come in18, 19, 20, 21, 22 inch. Read the size off the tyre sidewall: in 245/35 R20, the 20 is the rim.
- Bolt pattern. The number of wheel studs and the circle they sit on. Our spacer covers 5x112, 5x114.3, 5x120.
How close that gets to universal
Those three patterns cover most of what is on the road. On our own published list alone, 77 cars across 16 makes:
- 5x112: 24 cars, including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Lamborghini.
- 5x114.3: 42 cars, including Tesla, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Nissan.
- 5x120: 11 cars, including BMW, Tesla, Honda, Acura, Chevrolet.
Most Japanese and Korean cars run 5x114.3. Most modern German cars run 5x112. Older BMWs, Teslas with larger wheels, the Camaro, the Corvette and a few Acura and Honda performance models run 5x120.
If your car is not on the list
Not listed is not a no. On the order page, choose "My car is not listed", type in the car and pick its bolt pattern. If it is one of the three we build for, you go straight to a price. If you are not sure of the pattern, search your year, make and model with "bolt pattern", or order and we confirm it with you before anything is cut.
Where matching numbers are not enough
A matching pattern is necessary, not sufficient. The 2020 to 2024 BMW M3 and M4 run 5x112 and do not fit; we tested one andsay so on the BMW page. That is the reason every order is checked against the exact car and wheel by hand before anything is made, with a full refund if it will not fit.
What it costs
A universal plastic set is around ninety dollars. Ours start at $499 a pair, with free tracked shipping. What the difference buys isa rigid disc that is mechanically fastened rather than clipped, and one made for your wheel size. If you want the plain explainer first, start withwhat an aero disc is.
Check your fitment
